How To Guide: Layering An Outfit For Winter
Step One: Choose A Base – something simple and thinner to layer over or under (i.e. blouse, button up, basic top, thin sweater, etc.)
Step Two: Choose Accessory Pieces – something of interest to layer over or under (i.e. vest, jacket, cardigan, overalls, dress, etc.)
Step Three: Choose A Jacket – something thicker to layer over your accessory pieces (i.e. peacoat, fur coat, cape, etc.)
Step Four: Choose Actual Accessories – something to add extra interest to the look, keep you warm, and complete your outfit (i.e. hats, scarves, tights, jewelry, etc.)
Step Five: Choose Shoes – not really part of the layering process, but a must to complete your outfit (look for ways to layer here – i.e. socks, tights, etc.)
Additional Tips:
– Keep the under most layers thinner so it is easier to add other layers of warmth without adding bulk
– If you are worried about looking bulky, remember belts can save your waistline
-Keep length and proportion in mind at all times
-Play with textures, different fabrics, and prints – have fun!
